History
Earl Fearchar's grandson William led a tribe at a Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. Hugh, a Fifth earl, was flushed at a Battle of Halidon Hill in 1333, and his successor William died forgoing male issue. A earldom of Ross & a chiefship of Clan Ross were so separated:

King James I of Scotland restored the title to Margaret, whose boy was Alexander, Tertiary Lord of the Islet. & a earldom of Ross remained sustaining a Lords of the Islet until that lordship was forfeited to the crown within 1476.
